THE STONE CATS are seven experienced musicians who play all kinds of music to get you up and out of your chair. Rock, R&B, blues, country, early rock, mid-century tunes; might include anything from Little Walter to the Greatful Dead to Van Morrison. We cover songs that will surprise you, remind you, even educate you!
The band consists of older, wiser cats who played in high school, in college, kept on playing in bands throughout the Chicago area and occasionally beyond. Our setups can be large or compact, using our sound system or yours. We have played fundraisers, block parties, and the LaGrange West End juried show. We know how to play loud or softer...
Lead Singer, Saxaphonist
Lead singer and sax player is from Anchorage, Alaska. He started playing music in 1970 and ended up in Chicago as a student at University of Chicago. "My favorite music is the best songs of any genre that have a great groove and melody."
Guitarist
Newest member and guitarist; he has lived in Chicagoland for 40 years. His favorite music is blues and blues-rock.
Guitarist
Guitarist TC was born in Chicago and picked up guitar at age 10. After also living in New York and San Fransisco, he was exposed to lots of music in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Tom has performed with lots of bands in three cities.
Pianist
Clasically trained pianist, Ken, was "mesmerized" when he heard the first Led Zeppelin album: "It was louder, heavier, darker, and mor innovative that anything that had preceded it." He is an original, eight-year member of the band and scores all our music. He has classical chops too!
Drummer
Drummer, Joe, grew up on Long Island, New York, and moved to LaGrange about 9 years ago. He's played in lots of cover bands, including an Allman Brothers tribute band. He loved the challenge of our rock, jazz, blues and swing. We love that accent!
Bassist
Bert, the bass player, is third generation in LaGrange. He was in a band in high school, and is a founding member of this band! At class reunion, he and several former band mates decided to "get the old group together". They enjoyed it so much that the Stone Cats were born soon after. Bert is a hard core Los Lobos fan, and was, for a while, a "Dead Head".
Drummer, Backup Singer, Harpist, Hand Precussionist
Bruce has lived in Chicago for most of his life. He's been set drummer with a couple dozen bands since high school. His favorite type of music is R&B and blues, and his favorite drummer is Charlie Watts. "I was a Stones guy, not a Beatles guy."
